7 Ways to Have a Productive Morning

We could all use a little boost in the morning to help get us going, and knock out those assignments we need to get done. When you are not sure where to begin, and your mind is completely cluttered with a million thoughts and ideas, just take a few deep breaths and use the ideas below to help make your morning more productive.

1. Organization

Organization has always been a key component to success. Create folders for everything so that when you are looking for a specific bill, or an account, you can pull it up without any confusion to where in the world it may be. Organization is important inside and outside of the office. Keeping your home, car and office organized, and clean will always make your life easier.

2. Prioritize Projects

Prioritizing your tasks involves properly managing your time. Plan ahead of time and review your schedule before each day. To better prioritize your projects I recommend printing out a copy of your daily schedule and plan around your meetings and deadlines. That way you know what you will have time to knock out, and when you need to start on projects in order to meet expected deadlines.

Also, focus on one task at a time. Do not overwhelm yourself by trying to get a multiple number of things done at one time. The quality of your work will turn out better if you focus solely on one thing at a time. Then, move on to the next task, and so on and so forth.

3. To-Do List

Make a list of the most important things you need to get done that day. Keep it short and simple. Three to five items per day. Other things will come up throughout the day, so be sure to leave a little time in which case something does come up and you need to make room for it in your schedule.

4. Beauty Rest

Most people need about 8 hours of sleep to wake up feeling refreshed and well rested. Find out the best sleep pattern for you and go with it. Not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep and others need more. Do what works best for you so that you don’t wake up feeling tired and sluggish in the morning.

5. Know Your Power Hour

Everyone has a certain time of day when they are most productive and creative. Find out when this time is for you and take care of your toughest projects during that time. For some that is 6am, bright and early, but for others it may not be until 11am. Find out when your power hour is and plan accordingly.

6. Take a Break

I get it. Things can be stressful and you need to take a break sometimes. Don’t hesitate to walk away from your desk if you have to. I find that it’s best to go for a walk, listen to some music and get fresh air for about 10 – 15 minutes. Check with your boss first before dropping what you’re doing and leaving the office though (just a rule of thumb).

7. Professional Journal

Keep a journal for work handy, so that you can write all your thoughts and ideas onto paper. This little tool with help keep your mind organized and less cluttered.
